These instructions are intended to assist the student in the preparation of a Life Experience Resume to be used on a Life Experience Evaluation by VBC. The rationale is that we learn many valuable thing through work, military experience, projects completed, reading, non-credit seminars, etc., that may be translated into college credit. A student may be qualified for up to 30 undergraduate Life Experience credits. In order to qualify, the student must be at least 28 years of age, and provide documentation through the Life Experience Resume. This Resume is sent to VBC and evaluated by the Academic Dean, who will decide how many Life Experience credits can be approved, if any. The better the Resume is presented, the more likely we will be able to find favorable information toward your college credit. It takes time to gather all the information, reference letters, etc. but it is worth it to gain credit for the hard work you have already done. Please note that we cannot award credit for something that is not adequately documented. We would love to take your word for it, but we must answer to accreditation and authorization boards.

We look for any experience that you have that is directly related to ministry, interaction with people, research, or other sources of education (seminars, short-term discipleship schools, etc.) There are many valuable experiences that fall outside the walls of traditional education. We seek to take these thing into account in determining how they apply to the field you are training for here at VBC.

 Process of Preparing Resume

This process of preparing a Life Experience Resume is simple, but must be complete and verified by documentation.  The following guidelines can assist you:

  1. Make a detailed and comprehensive list of all the experience you have had in the following areas:

  • Work (paid or volunteer)

  • Military duty

  • Projects completed

  • Seminars attended

  • Specialized reading

  • Non-credit courses taken

  • Ministry positions held

  • Any experience that involves working with people. (office management, teaching, etc.)

  1. For each of the life experience listed write what you feel that you have learned from each experience. How has the experience helped you to become a better person. How has the experience helped increase your skills, particular communication skills (writing, speaking, etc.).

  2. Determine whether those experiences should be worthy of college credit and express in a formal statement your justification of each.

  3. Provide adequate documentation of the experience including letter from superiors, commendation, awards, etc. It is better to have too much than not enough documentation. The documents should verify both the quality and the quantity of experiences which you have had.

 Organizing the Resume

The resume should be organized in the following manner:

  1. Table of Contents

  2. Your autobiography.  This should be a brief summary of your life experience, your marital status, and only a very brief mention of your family origin.  Included in this should be a brief description of your life goals.

  3. You should also write a biographical sketch of your own personal religious experience and present relationship with the Lord.

  4. A section containing the information listed in section 1 of this instruction sheet.

  5. An appendix which contains all of the documentation and awards, etc., that you have received.

 Presentation

  1. Develop a cover sheet to go on the front of the resume.  Include on this sheet:

  • Your name, address, phone number.

  • The following title:
